Classroom Learning Assessment Scoring System
The Classroom Learning Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) is an observation tool designed to evaluate the quality of teacher-child interactions, which are essential for fostering children's social and cognitive development. Children thrive in nurturing, well-managed classrooms where teachers provide frequent, engaging learning opportunities.
The CLASS tool identifies three broad domains of effective teacher-child interactions: Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support. Each domain is made up of several dimensions, with each dimension focusing on a specific aspect of teacher-child interaction. Within these dimensions are sets of effective teaching practices that support children's development and learning.
