Move Like You Are A . . .
Ask your child to move as if he or she is a galloping horse, pig wallowing in mud, chicken pecking at dirt, etc. Encourage your child to make the noise of the animal that he or she is imitating at the same time
What's in the box? (Oral Language)
Put a variety of fruits and vegetables and other food items such as a plastic egg in a box or bag. Ask children to grab and feel one item without looking and guess what it is.
Thumbprint Chicks
Pour yellow paint into a shallow container. Have your child gently dip his or her finger in the paint. Then, have your child press his or her finger on a sheet of a paper, making one or more fingerprints. Add facial and feet details. These make great note cards.
Animal Sorting
Provide pictures of both farm animals and zoo animals and have your child sort them according to whether they are found on a farm or in a zoo.
Children are naturally drawn to animals and any time that I can include them in an activity I am sure it will be a success. With that in mind, what could be more fun than Counting Feet with farm animals?
Farm Sounds
(Tune: The Wheels on the Bus) Teach your child the sounds that various farm animals make by singing the following song with him or her:
The cows in the barn go moo, moo, moo,
Moo, moo, moo,
Moo, moo, moo,
The cows in the barn go moo, moo, moo,
All around the farm.
The pigs in the pen go oink, oink, oink,
The hens in the coop go cluck, cluck, cluck,
The lambs on the hill go baa, baa, baa,
The ducks on the pond go quack, quack, quack,
The horses in the corral go neigh, neigh, neigh,
Five Little Pigs Rolled in the Mud
Five little pigs rolled in the mud -
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one piggy out.
"Oink, Oink, oink," the pig did shout!
Continue with four, three, etc.
No little pigs rolled in the mud.
They all looked so clean and good.
The farmer turned his back and then,
Those pigs rolled in the mud again.
Six Little Ducks
Six little ducks that I once knew,
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too
But the one little duck with the feathers on his back
He led the others with a quack quack quack
Quack quack quack
Quack quack quack
He led the others with a quack quack quack

I’ll Plant a Little Seed (tune: I’m a Little Teapot)
I’ll plant a little seed in the dark, dark, ground.
Out comes the yellow sun, big and round.
Down comes the cool rain, soft and slow.
Up comes the little seed,
grow, grow, GROW!
Little Seed
Little seed in the ground (crouch down, hands covering head)
Sitting so still. Little seed, will you sprout? YES, I will! (jump up)
Wiggle Worm (tune: Did You Ever See a Lassie?)
Did you ever see a wiggle worm, A wiggle worm, a wiggle worm?
Did you ever see a wiggle worm Move this way and that?
Move this way and that way, Move this way and that way.
Did you ever see a wiggle worm Move this way and that?
Five Little Flowers
Five little flowers growing in a row (hold up five fingers, gesture to row)
The first one said, "We need rain to grow." (hold up 1 finger, imitate rain falling)
The second one said, "Yes, we need water!" (hold up 2 fingers, nod head)
The third one said, "Whew, it's getting hotter!" (hold up 3 fingers, wipe brow)
The fourth one said, "Look, there are clouds in the sky." (4 fingers, point to sky)
The fifth one said, "I wonder why?" (5 fingers, hold palms out questioningly)
One Potato
One potato, two potato, Three potato, four,
Five potato, six potato, Seven potato, more,
Eight potato, nine potato, Here is ten.
Now let's start all over again.
Potato Hop
Cut ten large potato shapes from brown construction paper and number them from 1 to 10. Tape the shapes to the floor in order from number 1 to 10. Let the children take turns hopping from one potato to the next as everyone chants the rhyme.
Farm Word Syllables Clap these words and count the syllables: tractor, farmer, cow, pig, chicken, rooster. Encourage your child to think of more farm words to clap and count.
Take a Field Trip to the Animal Farm Watch the video. Talk with your child about her favorite animal. Ask her to describe the animal she chose and why she made that choice.
Pig Roll Have your child pretend to be a pig. Have her lie down on the rug or outside in the grass and roll back and forth like a pig in the mud! What other animals can she pretend to be?
Have your child draw a picture of his favorite farm animal. Encourage him to add details and talk about the picture. Write what your child says on the back of the page.
