*Have a school set up in dramatic play. Have a chalkboard or dry erase board, chalk or markers, erasers, desk, etc and encourage children to play school.
Teaching Concepts for Large Group
1. Have poster of classroom rules. Ask child what the children are doing in the pictures of the rules. Have a puppet show of modeling good choices.
2. Go over job chart and ask each child what the children are doing in the pictures.
3. Talk about feelings. Ask each child about feelings about school. Do feelings chart.
4. Discuss sequencing. Ask each child what they do before they come to school for the day. (Wake up, get dressed, have breakfast, brush teeth, etc..) Talk about the differences and similarities that children do in the morning.
5. Discuss manners. Ask the children what are manners? How do we follow them?
6. Why do we come to school? Make a chart of their answers.
* Special Activity – school field trip, take a walk around the school. Meet staff members (CM, CS, FSS, Floaters, Kitchen Staff, etc)
1. Extend sequencing activity from above.
2. Have the children draw a map of the school or classroom. Ask questions about their map.
3. Things I find at School. Have children cut items from the school supply catalogs that they have in the classroom. Ask questions like, where do you see that? How do you play with that? Etc.

Draw a simple map of the classroom or playground and in invite children to use the map to go on a treasure hunt.
During transition to the cafeteria, playground, bathroom, etc. invite children to draw any shapes that they see along the way. This can be enriched with older children by writing down environmental words that they see and comparing them to the letter of the week.

The teacher will give the action directions, while the students participate. If the children miss the action cue "Simon Says" then they are out. Keep going until you have a winner.

Pick an item that can easily be seen by all the children and share a clue.
